Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
We become united with Christ in His death. We follow Christ by faith and baptism to unite with Him. Since we died with Christ we are now alive to Him. Death is a separation point in regard to sin. It can be defeated. Our new life in Jesus makes it possible for Him to live His life in us.
When we slip, we confess our sins and He accepts us back. We've turned aside from sin because of the divine presence of God within us. Gal. 2:20 says that we live for Jesus out of love for Him. We aren't obeying Jesus out of fear, rather out of our love and respect for Him. His death (once for all) gives us a source for our righteousness. We're alive to God and dead to sin. Not that we are saved from hell, but that we are saved from our sins.
Heb 9:28 says that salvation will come to those who are waiting for Him when He returns. 1 Cor. 6:9-11 talks about who we were before we were saved and who we are now. Those who have sinned will not inherit the kingdom of God. We were washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God.
To live in holiness is a challenge. God gives us all we need to match this challenge. Sin is a controlling power. It will cost you more than you ever thought you'd pay! We can't justify any part of our old sinful life. We have been provided with a way that will allow us to be forgiven of our sins. We have to make the choice to put away our old sinful life and begin a new life by following Christ.
Rom. 6:6 says the old self died on the cross, so that sin could not have a hold on us. Becoming a Christian is becoming a new creation. The evidence of our new nature is that we hate sinful ways. We hear the Word, we believe and we obey. Not out of fear, but because we love of our Lord.
